Living in North Portland, it’s not difficult to find a spot for a family session. Molly mentioned wanting somewhere with a city feel, and I love the juxtaposition of nature and city that some of the North Portland neighborhoods offer. I did a little scouting on Dekum the day before and this bush that was blooming caught my eye and I surrounded my entire shoot around its beauty. I really try not to overthink locations, because in the end it really is about the people, good light, and a good experience that matters most. But it doesn’t hurt to have a few fun walls or a starting place like this blooming bush to get my creative juices flowing.

I just adore the joy filled moments from this session! Our time together was short, but sweet, and shot entirely on 35mm film, which is typical these days. In 2024 I switched from a hybrid of digital and film to fully film and it I’ve had a lot of great feedback from clients who enjoy the switch. There is something so nostalgic and genuine about analog.
