We had conversation of plants and our favorite books, witnessed lots of waves from baby Pax, had Sangria at the top of Dege Peak and views of Mt. Rainer the whole trek. All my recent family sessions are breathing fresh air into this business of mine. I absolutely love weddings but love my families and my family sessions equally as much.
I photographed Steph + Alex’s wedding back in the summer of 2016, and after much time had passed, it was so nice to see them again and meet Pax. For this session, we met up at their home and I popped in to meet their pup and get a house tour. As I walked down the hallway leading back to their bedroom I came across their wedding photos framed on the wall and albums of my images laid open on a bookshelf. It stopped me in my tracks and warmed my heart to see their memories in tangible form. It is always so neat to photograph couples as their families grow.
These adventure type sessions are easily becoming my favorite because it gives me time to build and foster a connection with the people that I am photographing. If you are a photographer and find yourself struggling to connect with your subjects, I would suggest giving yourself time with them before pulling out your camera. Yes, it’s nice to travel separately to a session but I’ve learned that opening up any opportunity to connect, always results in the best imagery.
