It makes my heart happy to be doing more family work. It’s a refreshing change of pace from the work I do with my couples on their wedding day and I’ve noticed that broadening my workload keeps me on my toes creatively.
Having some time alone with Sam before taking photos of her and Casey allowed me to slow down and really get creative with this new concept of emphasizing a “bump” without overdoing it. Although maternity photos are a new facet of family work for me I’m already diving into these kinda session full on with a far from traditional approach. I want these images to represent women during their pregnancy. Represent how it felt. I’m not an advocate for going out and buying the $300 maternity dress. Also not keen on the stereotypical pregnancy poses. I want women to show up and be themselves in clothes they already have. I thought it was so special that Sam showed up in the same overalls that her mom had worn when she was pregnant with Sam. Some of my faves are in the halls. Simple and unique to Sam.
Part 2. of Sam and her hubs, Casey, coming soon! It only felt fair to dedicate an entire post to my beautiful friend because look at her! I can’t stop.
